Should I read the "WATCHMEN" comic before seeing the movie?

I think (imho) that there is no way any director can fit the contents of a regular book/comic into a 2 hour movie.
In books, the author can talk about how a certain character likes to wear his/her hat sideways for 3 pages, but you can’t fit that kind of content in a movie.
Will reading the comic ruin the movie for me?
I kind of don’t want to read it, but my roommate/evil landlord is tell me I should.
your thoughts?
