How do I fix this iTunes problem?

Whenever I want to play a sample of a song, it makes me fill in my iTunes account name and password in order to “authorize” my account. I do, and then “the required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct these permission problems and try again, or de-authorize this computer if permissions can’t be changed” pops up.
What’s the problem and how can I fix it?
