How would you respond (or would you respond at all) to text messages asking who you are?

I have gotten two calls on my business cell phone that hung up then a text demanding to know who I was. This is my business line and the message clearly states the business name.
All these calls/texts happened between twelve and one in the morning.

I checked my phone records to see if I had accidentally called the number which would explain the demand and I have not.

Would you even respond?

Is this a hoax?

Has anyone had this happen to them?

Is there a way- without paying- to look up the owner of the number?
