Why does Pachelbel's Canon in D have such an entrancing effect on some people?

i have seen a whole bus load of chattering, spitting, smoking Chinese, literally dumbfounded by this piece: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOA-2hl1Vbc&feature=related and a vietnamese toddler play it over and over on the computer, maybe it particularly appeals to the Asian ear.
