How do you clean earwax from earplugs? Or are earplugs one-time use?

Despite cleaning my ears with Q-tips a couple times a week, my earplugs can get waxy from a single use. Is it possible to clean them without damaging the earplugs?

I really don’t think they’re one-time use (who could afford that?), but I do find that after extended use, they lose their elasticity in being squeezed and expanding again. Is there anyway to prolong their life?
