Is a Financial Career a detriment to a possible Future Political career?

I love Finance and plan to enter either Investment Banking or Trading upon graduating from college. I also want to be heavily involved in politics later on in my life (Big Politics like a Senator).
Does anyone feel like it would be an advatage or disadvantage tp having a career in Finance before politics? (I guess people might think me to be disconnected and only worried about the bottom line).

Personally I believe the best type of politic is someone who has been in and run businesses or Finance because they are able to understand complicated things and explain them to people (their clients) but are always aware of the bottom line and the importance of it and efficiency.
