Are the nitwit characters in The Office over done?

I like The Office but I can only handle it in small doses. If I watch for more than 10 minutes, I tend to get extremely irritated by all the nitwits. It seems that there are two, maybe three somewhat normal characters on the show. I know, I know it is fiction and supposed to be funny, but man oh man the incredible stupidity of these people really irks me.
