Sudden stomach issues.. what is going on with me?

Asked by MissAnthrope (21511points) October 29th, 2009

Recently, over the past couple of weeks, when my stomach is empty, I sometimes get an unpleasant feeling in my stomach, it kind of burns and makes me nauseous. The only way I can describe it is my stomach feels acidic. I’m inclined to think it has to do with stomach acid, as once I eat, the acidic feeling subsides. It’s a different feeling than how I generally experience hunger.. never have had that burning/nausea before.

Also, I’ve been feeling like I can’t get enough food.. like I eat a meal that should hold me over for at least a couple of hours, but my body seems to want food all the time. I kind of feel like a starving person at times, even though my stomach isn’t growling, I have a craving to eat, like I can’t get enough food.

I have been diagnosed with both anxiety and IBS; I’m what they call a stomach responder to anxiety. Never had a problem with ulcers or heartburn, though I’ve wondered if the stomach responsiveness to my anxiety and worry would lead to ulcers eventually. I have been fairly stressed, worried, and anxious lately.

Any ideas as to what this might be and whether I should be concerned?
