How ethical it is to tell on someone?

My friend A had a girlfriend, B. They parted ways not-so-amicably. C is a friend of mine and had just met B. C told me that B talked badly about A, the first time they met. I don’t know the specifics of the talk but should I tell my friend A that his ex-girlfriend is talking behind his back? Or should I just keep mum about the whole thing?
