Do families have a "dark side" and a "light side?"?

This came from a talk I was having yesterday. Most of the families I know have some kind of disagreement going on, whether it’s big or small, and a lot of the time people take sides. Do you think this is true, and if so, are you on a “side?” What is a good way to define this idea? I was thinking about this in the context of my own extended family, and there is kind of an internal divide going on. I guess I would be more on the “dark side,” even though I love all of my relatives very much.
