Why does my good arm hurt?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) November 24th, 2009

So over the summer I broke my left wrist and had surgery (old news I know, sorry). It is still recovering, and obviously banging it in any way hurts a lot (especially on the ulnar styloid process—the bump on the pinky side, which I also broke).

The weird thing is my RIGHT wrist hurts when bumped as well.

My first thought is that it’s a psychological thing, that my body is so used to associating wrist-bumping with pain, that it creates it regardless of which wrist.

My second thought was that I used my right wrist as well much less during the ordeal because there was so much I couldn’t do because of my broken one (lift heavy things, ride my bike, play musical instruments, etc.) so it’s still weak.

Any thoughts?
