What is the real goal of the game "Monopoly"?
I purchased the computer version of the old board classic game Monopoly and have been playing against the AI. (computer opponent)
The first two games I lost and my spouse then decided to coach me on my third game where I already had purchased and hotel-upped Broadway and Park Place.
His advice was merely to crush my opponent to win which I did with luck of the dice.
However the win felt hollow to me as I had not actually achieved a “monopoly” only having Park Place and Broadway as a set. Several times I wanted to swap with the AI to gain a true monopoly of property ownership but my spouse was adamant that this was not how the game was played and the goal was to bankrupt the other player(s).
So I won with 45M in Monopoly money unspent with really seemed like a shame to me when I could have tried to barter my opponents properties off him and then built on them. It was nice having that much money even it is was only Monopoly money.
I always felt the goal of the game was to get the most properties and hotels (hence the name.) So what does the collective think?
