Scholarship Possibilities?

Asked by Anon_Jihad (1585points) December 11th, 2009

I’ve been considering taking some college courses, going more ofr practical courses I will use later on, as I’m trying to establish long-term self-employment. So I probably would avoid going full time, as building up student-loan debt in this day and age is not only not entirely sensible but likely a bit self-destructive in my shoes. However if I could find some scholarships to cover enough that when the bills started showing up, I do not live in a state of paranoia, I’d be willing to grab a degree.

I was wondering if maybe I could find grants for some of medical conditions? I have a separated hip, not much but it has certainly made some of life difficult, I have a nasty case of hypertension, and while it is correctable with a cornea transplant I’m kind of blind in left eye. I’ve not been tested for legal blindness but I don’t know if it can be tested in just one eye, whatever.

Also my biological father is a veteran of Vietnam with a Purple Heart. But he is not on my birth certificate, and no one can find him of course. Despite not being on my birth certificate, I do share his name and appearance and it is common knowledge among my family, but as my mom was married to someone else at the time of my birth she had no option.

So am I grasping at straws? Or is there something I can exploit to get me some proper learnings?
