Why do cloves cost so much?

I bought a jar of ground cloves. It weighed 0.8 oz, and cost $7.99. The per unit sticker said that ground cloves cost over $130 a pound. How is that possible in this day and age? Does it have something to do with all the Goths smoking clove cigarettes?
