My daughter is getting a new phone, any recommendations?

Ok, it’s her birthday and I am getting her a new phone. She is turning 13 this January. What phones would you recommend?
I would prefer a phone with free unlimited texting just so I don’t go broke! She prefers a phone with a QWERTY keyboard and one that opens. One thing she won’t be getting though, under my guidelines, is a blackberry or iphone/itouch.
Anything out there that seems reasonable? I don’t have a specific price limit, but maybe something that isn’t $300 or something too too pricy.
