Ladies: In which direction to you shave your legs?

…and does the direction change when you shave above your knee?

The reason I ask is because I’ve read that we should shave “in the direction of the hairs”, but….that would mean shaving DOWN toward your feet, right?? Seems really, really awkward to me…
