Why is my TV doing this (see details)?

Occasionally my TV will go silent and this little blue box on the top right of the screen will pop up and say “HDMI 2” and “720p dmi” (I may have made up the “dmi”) or something like that. Why is this happening? Is this my TV or cable provider? It seems to be happening more on this one specific channel but I’m thinking maybe a cable is loose?
It’s a brand new 32” Dynex flat screen HD TV. What’s the deal?
