Will USB become a universal telecom/power/network protocol someday?

I see it happening. Even now, so many gadgets use USB as nothing more than a power supply. With USB 3.0 on the horizon that can handle streaming video at 1080p, will USB eventually become the standard connection for phone, internet, TV, and maybe even electric power (except, obviously, major appliances like stoves and air conditioners)?
