Have you ever been in a situation where you were in imminent threat of death?

In the past, I was a civil servant and was in more than one situation where I was in fear of imminent death. I served High Risk Drug Warrants and was often the first to enter a situation, not knowing the outcome. Situations that I mentally and physically prepared for, but the reality was very different. Have you ever been in a similar situation, in whatever capacity? and was it the same as you imagined? How did you respond/react physically, mentally, and emotionally? Did it have long lasting impact to your psyche? Your beliefs about people in general?
