Feminism: is it about gender equality or the female gender lording over the male gender?

I’ve come to distinguish two groups of feminists. There is the one side that works for equality between the genders and the other side, those who work for the domination of female gender. The former group believes that both genders should have an equal chances for jobs and privileges, while the latter seems to think women should be the preferred group when it comes to work and rights.

So, is the goal of the modern feminist movement still to give women equal rights and protection, or is it about elevating women above?
