How good is Doom 3?

Back in the 1990s, I wore out several mice playing Doom and Doom 2. I never looked at Doom 3 when it came out, but I heard it was scary good. Opinions? Also, how would it run on a system that isn’t really set up for gaming, like a typical office PC.
