How much damage am i really putting my poor car through?

ok so i know my car needs new shocks, the mechanic says my current shocks are DONE. since i dont have the money for them right now im just driving around with my car the way it is. how bad is this other than the fact that i feel every single pebble in the road? (im avoiding most potholes and not driving like a maniach)
