Can you recommend some good lesbian fiction? see details...

I’m not talking about basic sex-romps from beginning to end… I’m thinking of well written, good plot, interesting characters, possibly deep, contemporary, challenging, passionate and engaging books…

I’ve read some Anais Nin, which I found interesting and scintillating but a bit too brooding and dark at times. I’ve also read Jeanette Winterson’s Oranges are not the only fruit which I enjoyed but that was years ago so I couldn’t give you a more detailed response to it other than I moderately enjoyed it.
