Have there ever been times when you just "don't want to know"?

Oh man. Yesterday my daughter, Corrie, came over with her two kids, Brande who’s 6, and Aden who’s 4. They got the urge to “paint” with these small sponges and water. They started off “painting” my coffee table, which is solid wood. I said I didn’t think that was a good idea, and moved them into the bathroom where they could “paint” the floor. I checked the bathroom for cleaners, medicines, anything dangerous and made sure it was secure. I overlooked one thing, though…...

Eventually Brande got tired of “painting” and decided to clean. I figured this out when she called me in to show me how clean my full length mirror was. Well, I could only see the bottom two feet or so of it, as I had some clothes on hangers on the towel bar just above it, but what I could see was clean, so I said it looked great!

They went back to work. Five minutes later a horrible crashing sound came from the bathroom. You know, the dreadful kind of sound that has you up on your feet and on the move before it even dies away.

I have this quite tall, cheapy cabinet/shelf thing that sits on the floor, and is open at the bottom and designed to clear the tank of the toilet, and then, at about 5½ feet, there are some cabinets that open, and a shelf above that. It’s about 7 ft tall, but flimsy and not very heavy at all, thank goodness….because it also wasn’t fastened to the wall. I hear the crash, I go flying in there, Mom right behind me and there’s poor little Brande, standing in front of the toilet, struggling to push this really tall stand, which had obviously fallen over, back up. She desperately fighting to “fix it,” but she’s too short to get the leverage she needs to push it back up. She yells, “Aden! Help me!!” Like, what’s he gonna do? He’s shorter than she is! The poor child!

Anyway, I came up behind her and put my hand on the stand and took the weight off of her…..she looked up and saw me and started crying. “I was just trying to open the cabinets!” she sobbed. I’m trying to comfort her, tell her it’s OK, it was just an accident, and fight this cabinet at the same time. But Mom was in right behind me and she picked her up and held her and reassured her. She was practically in shock! And Aden’s yelling “Look!! This got BROKEN!!” (it was a pot that came from my Mother’s house.) I said, “I do not care!!” I felt SO bad.

What I don’t want to know is…Was the poor child standing on the toilet, trying to open the cabinets, when the shelf came down?

The rest of the story…..After they left I went into the bathroom again and noticed something. I sent the following text to my daughter: “Tell Brande she did an awesome job cleaning my mirror but…is she the one who moved my clothes from the towel rack and re-hung them on the shower curtain rod seven feet above the floor????”

Corrie said, “Apparently and I don’t want to know!”

Me: “Well, it looks like we got off easy with just one wreck!”

I just don’t wanna know!
