Have you had a really smart dream?

Asked by Mariah (25883points) March 9th, 2010

Let me give you an example of what I mean.

I once dreamed that my teacher (Mr. Mitchell) had installed a machine that sprays mist in the doorway of his classroom. (go figure…) I was walking to class, and I didn’t notice his room so accidentally walked past; when I realized that I had done so, I doubled back. Mr. Mitchell asked me, “How could you not notice my room with the mister in the doorway?” and I said, “I guess I missed the mister, Mr. Mitch.” (Say it out loud. It’s awesome.) I really don’t know how I came up with this great alliteration in my sleep. It begs the question, was the entire beginning of the dream preplanned to purposefully lead to that one line, or did the facets of my dream just happen to perfectly work out so that all the words sounded similar? Is my asleep mind really that smart?

I also have an example of a really applicable metaphor that I dreamed up, but this is already starting to get long-winded. I’ll post it in the threads if anyone wants.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? What do you think of it? Are we really capable of coming up with good ideas when we’re asleep?
