Police encounter: what would have happened if there hadn't been any snow on the ground?

Asked by YoKoolAid (2424points) March 18th, 2010

I was walking back from the gas station, a police car drove up and stopped me on the side walk. He asked me what I was doing, I told him, he claimed: “I saw you go up a couple driveways, I thought you might be trying to break into cars, we’ve had a few reports recently” I said: “I’m not sure what you think you saw, I didn’t deviate from the sidewalk at all” .....“Put your hands on the car sir” ...He checked me for weapons and put me in the back of the police car. He drove back to the driveways he thought he saw me go to, got out twice with his flashlight to check for footprints and found nothing. He said, “well everything checks out, you’re free to go”.

No footprints, no evidence, I didn’t do anything wrong. But what if there was no snow to show I didn’t actually go up these driveways?
