How can a tanning bed cause a rash?

Last week was my first time ever in a tanning bed. I went for two days skipping a day in between. The next night my skin broke out so bad I did not sleep a wink from the itching. It felt like little electric shocks on my body. Very wierd. There is no rash, no redness, no blotches. I don’t think I am allergic to the cleaner they use to sanatize the beds because the itching occurs on my stomach and it doesn’t even touch the bed. I am giving it up for now, but would like to know what is exactly causing this reaction….
