Unable to update Microsoft and others?

I have AVG security .. I can go to Microsoft but as soon as I want to update it says it is unable to display this page both on IE and Firefox. I have tried adding it to firewall exceptions and AVG… still no change. Also Registry Mechanic is unable to update. AVG will update. Do I have a virus or is some setting screwed up. Been trying to work this out for days and can’t get even close to an explanation… Please !! Someone help me. :o(
