How do you find out if your flight has been delayed/canceled?

Due to the volcano eruption in Iceland many flights to Europe have been canceled or delayed. Does anyone know how to find out direct status? If your put in your flight info into many airline sites nothing of result comes up. The phone lines are jammed and I don’t know what to do next. Traveling to the airport only to wait 24+ hrs is something to be avoided!! suggestions?
