What would be the easiest way to add contrasting color side panels in the bottom part of a tunic?

I just recently bought a solid black tunic. I am wanting to add a contrasting color on the sides (near the bottom where it flares). What would be the easiest way to do that. Would I just cut up the sides and then cut a trinangular shaped piece and just sew it in?Any help will be appreciated.
