Should I listen to the officer, or drive on my street? details inside?

I live in an apartment a medium sized city, on a smallish, mostly commercial block. I woke up this morning and took my dog out.

When I got to the street, I saw thousands of walkers doing a walk for a well-known organization. They’re taking up the whole road, and sidewalks too.

I saw an officer directing car traffic away from my road and asked when the walk would be over. He said in two hours. I asked about the possibility of getting my car out of the garage, and he told me I can’t until the street was cleared in about two hours. There were no signs posted, neither about the road being closed today or about the walk. The officer said that’s just part of living in the city, and get used to it. I have 3 appointments I need to get to this morning.

So… what’s the legal and moral issues here? Do I slowly make my way through the people (it’s about 1 city block until a turn away from the people) or suck it up and miss my appointments that I scheduled a long time ago.

I realize there are bigger issues in the world, I’m just wondering what y’all would do.
