How do I fix my homemade lotion?

Asked by Paxan8 (462points) July 26th, 2010

Here is my dilemma, I have just made my first batch of homemade body butter and I am quite pleased with the consistency as it it is very light and fluffy however, I am very disappointed in the absorbency factor. I don’t want to ruin the consistency and I don’t know which ingredient I am missing or what I can add so it will absorb into my skin. Right now, although it goes on very smoothly (I am so proud my first batch came out without being waxy or lumpy:) , it just sits on the top of my skin and takes several hours to permeate. I’m not sure if I need to add more oil or more liquid or more emulsifying wax or if I am missing an ingredient all together. I have seen many recipes that include Borax but I don’t think that’s for absorption I think it’s for stability and my product already seems to be stable.
So far here is my list of ingredients they are all therapeutic grade in quality.
½ cup beeswax
½ cup emulsifying wax
¼ cup cocoa butter
⅔ illipe butter
½ cup green tea
1 cup mangosteen juice
1 cup pure aloe juice
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp vitamin E oil
1 tbsp vitamin C oil
1 tbsp various essential oils

I am afraid if I add more oil it may become too oily or heavy, and if I add more liquid it may become too runny. The batch produced a lot more than I expected and I don’t want to ruin the whole batch because I am a novice and waste the ingredients. Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
