Where do families go, when their home has been foreclosed?

Are you concerned as to what happens to a family, when their home has been foreclosed. A man, a woman and their children. I do not believe this has ever been asked on Fluther. Does the government give them any kind of assistance or do they head for the nearest homeless shelter?
