Can you get (cheaper) car insurance for a rental car? I.E. Not from the rental company?

I’m renting a car for a week, and the rental co (thrifty) offers insurance, but it is insanely expensive. Is there a company where I can get insurance just for the week that’s not a million dollars a day?
