I've fallen head over heals. what should i do?

“I have totally fallen head over heals for this guy! And he seems really special. the problem is that he has a girlfriend that he has been with for a while. Should I wait around or let it go?”
Above is what I wrote yesterday but I just found out that today they broke up…Should I wait a few months then tell him I like him?
