Which Muslims should I believe?

Asked by josie (30934points) September 12th, 2010

Clearly, there is some mistrust between non Islamic Americans, and people (this includes Americans) who practice the Islamic faith. I will not bother to prove that assertion, it is all over the headlines- Koran burning, the Islamic “cultural center” near Ground Zero etc….
But lets face it. When it comes down to judging the motives, goals, and core beliefs of Muslims, there are only two choices.;
1. The Muslims who publicly declare that they want to rid the world of The Infidel (by bombing, beheading, stoning, burning and every other atrocious torment that the mind of man can imagine)
2. Those Muslims who publicly declare….nothing at all. No renunciation of murder, no condemnation of terrorism…..nothing.
Assuming that those who say nothing at all have only two options-the embrace of terroristic Jihad, or peaceful coexistence-then there is only a 50/50 chance of reading them correctly. Those odds, nothing more than flipping a coin, are not particularly good when dealing with life and death decisions.
So, given those two choices, who would not render a final moral judgement against the followers of the Prophet?
I would be happy to re evaluate if and when the “moderate” Muslims spoke up against the murderers. But on measure they do not.
So why are some people, like me, being condemned for making a totally rational judgement? Plus, I have an advantage-I have walked among those folks in the Middle East, and the “moderates” say nothing, NOTHING, to try to mitigate the conflict between
“Christendom” and the Islamic culture. I repeat…NOTHING.
So why should any of us believe anything the “moderates” say without evidence that it might be true? Why should we not be suspicious of their motives?
