How do you solve the differentail equation y' = x + y?

I know that I have to approach it with substitution such that;

u = x + y

du = 1 + dy/dx

dy/dx = du-1

x + y = du-1

I cannot seem to make it separable through algebraic manipulation.

Any tips on coming up with the general solution equation?
