What does OP stand for, in reference to someone asking a question?

Asked by cockswain (15286points) September 26th, 2010

Sorry, I should have been able to figure this out by now but I can’t. I’m not even certain OP refers to the one asking the question, but it looks like it is. I always think it means “offending party” but I’ve seen it used several times in a way that makes me think otherwise.

@cockswain I want to express my gratitude, commend your bravery and let you know that I now officially adore you! Don’t worry but don’t have any expectations either; my adoration of you will have a limited impact as I am much too lazy and apathetic to engage in stalking and believe myself to be thoroughly above such things as fawning or sucking up. :-) Anyway, I have been wanting to ask this question forever but have been too embarrassed to admit that I had no idea what OP meant. I felt like I should either already know it or have been able to figure it out I have racked my brain. Opinion Person? Could that be it? Opinion Poster? Opening Party? Yikes! Like so many things, now that I know it means Original Poster it seems so obvious.

Thanks! Who doesn’t like being adored?

@cockswain

THANKS. I asked that question in a thread and nobody answered. I figured that either everyone thought I was stupid or nobody else knew either.

I feel complete now. :D
