Do you know of a good tomato sauce recipe that includes red wine and sugar?

I just got a big bag of fresh tomatoes from my friend’s garden. I want to make pasta sauce like in the movie the Godfather when they are all hunkered down in the house after Don Corleone gets shot. Clemenza is cooking sauce in the kitchen and he goes “here’s the secret, a little garlic, red wine and sugar, there you go.”

That recipe sounds really good to me.

Of course, I need a very clear, succinct recipe as I am not the best kitchen improviser. Can someone steer me in the right direction?
