How can I find SilverKeeper backup files on an external HD?

Asked by bluemukaki (4332points) April 3rd, 2008

My mum’s iMac G4 got fried by a power surge this morning, and she has been backing her computer up to a Lacie External HD using their software called SilverKeeper. When I went to retrieve the files, I can find the backup file as a disc-image and load a disc image of my mum’s home folder from the HD, but while all the folders and their sub-folders appear, there are no actual files in any folders. How can I retrieve the files, because we only have computers running 10.5 and SilverKeeper isn’t compatible with anything above 10.4?

I used SilverKeeper briefly… all it does is physically copy files… there’s no proprietary database or construct that is used to store the backup files.

So, if the files were actually backed up, they should be visible to your 10.5 machines.

I hate to ask, but were you or your mum able to visually confirm the files were actually getting copied correctly prior to the surge this morning?

Well all the back-up logs and folder hierarchies are there for every day since October 2006, but the actual files were nowhere to be seen… that’s why it is so weird. Everthing says it backed up, except the lack of files!
