How long should I charge my cellphone for the first time?

Asked by Marchofthefox (787points) December 9th, 2010

Today, I got a cellphone from MetroPCS. Its called, The Samsung Freeform II. I read the manual and it said to charge the battery until its fully charged. I’m not sure if its two to three hours or tweleve.

Any suggestions?

It should tell you on the display when it’s fully charged.

And that should be long enough?

You should change until it is fully charged which will take a few hours BUT it is best for the first time and maybe even the first couple of times to let the battery fully drain before charging…. seems weird I know but trust me it helps with battery life.

I was always taught to never charge a phone as soon as you get it. Let it die for the first day or so then charge the phone after it has died. It helps with its battery life.

The first time you get a cell, you should make sure that you fully discharge ALL of it’s power. Letit run out on it’s own. THEN charge it fully until the batt light indicates a full charge. Then the first time you do use it, run it out completely again. This will train the batt for long term usage. It’s the same with RC cars and wireless drills. Good luck and may God Bless you:)

Rule of thumb is 8 hours.
