Should Rep. Michelle Bachmann named to the House Intelligence Committee?

Asked by ETpro (34605points) December 17th, 2010

Republican Michelle Bachmann was just named to the House Intelligence Committee. Is this a good appointment or the height of irony in your eyes? She may be faking her folksy bona-fides for all I know. She may be smart as a fox. She does manage to keep getting reelected despite her monumental verbal gaffes and wild conspiracy theory thinking. But doesn’t it ring odd that her Republican colleagues would choose her, of all people, to “work on the Intelligence Committee? Did they think that having her sit in that room, some intelligence might soak into her given sufficient time?

I see the irony, cuz she’s a complete moron. I have no idea how the people in that district continue to vote for her. Seriously, I mean I don’t for a second claim to not be a liberal… But even if I was a stout Republican, the woman is toxic.

Maybe they were out of names and she just fell into the spot… you know like when you do your schedule and you end up adding like weaving on because you needed 2 more credits and it was all that was left?

Yes, because she is an excellent representative of mainstream thought among GOP voters.

I guess that depends on how intelligent she is :-p

Oh, come on! If she was gonna have brain surgery, it would involve a donor!!
I actually thought this question was a joke, and am shocked that they would put her there. I thought a better fit would be Ways and Means, since that is the real issue she ran on.

@filmfann It was probably wise to keep her far from Ways and Means. Her way would be to provide no means, and still expect spectacular results.

@jaytkay A for instance. When Obama recently went to India for a State visit, her staff ran across an article in some obscure Indian newspaper claiming that the cost for the President and his entourage was going to be $200 million dollars a DAY! She went public with that story in an attempt to embarrass the President. Of course, that figure is so absurdly false that anybody with an adult brain should have realized it is ridiculous. The US has 100,000 troops in Afghanistan and a massive amount of equipment and ordnance there, and we are constantly replacing what gets used and blown up. That entire war effort runs in the range she suggested for the President’s state visit. She has shown herself time and again by ridiculous, preposterous statements to be devoid of ordinary critical thinking skills. She cannot recognize truth from obvious fiction, or perhaps doesn’t really care what’s true and what’s patently false.

I seriously doubt she possesses the intelligence, insight or discretion to be suited to such a position.
