What is the best way to get gum off of the bottom of a shoe?

Asked by occ (4176points) December 30th, 2010

The gum must be a couple of days old – I didn’t notice it before – so it is not super sticky – I can walk around without having it stick to the floor…but it is still wedged in to the sole of the shoe. I tried using a plastic fork to scrape it off but it didn’t work. Should I use hot water or will that only make it stickier and more gooey?

Stick the shoe in the freezer and harden the gum. It should then come off with a knife. This works for candlewax on candlesticks and on tablecloths, too. If that fails to do it, try a little Goo Gone.

@BarnacleBill – is right, GooGone is the duct tape of removing sticky stuff from ANYTHING

Chew it off…obviously

@stratman37, duct tape is the most amazing invention. With duct tape and a box of popsicle sticks you can rule the world.

Peanut butter will help get it out of hair, if none of the other things work you could try that.

Coke…. It eats everything…. so just rub coke on it from time to time… i think that might actually work…

I think ice it. It will freeze and then you can break it off.

Thanks, everyone! I put it in the freezer and then was able to chip off the frozen gum with a knife. Thanks for your advice!
