Why can I hear myself when I talk on my mic?

Asked by tocutetolive90 (888points) January 7th, 2011

So I have an Inspiron 1520, its an older computer so not technically suppose to have windows 7. Had a computer geek tell me to get Realtek AC’97 Audio to try to fix it so when I talk on my mic I don’t hear myself and that driver so help my computer work better with windows 7. But that didn’t fix it. People say to go to my recording device and hit don’t monitor for my mic, but I don’t have that option. So any idea what I can do? Kinda annoyed of hearing myself talk and i use my mic all the time. it even happens when i use my headset.

This might help:

Right-click the volume control thng in the status bar
Select Sounds
Select Recording tab
Open your mic (it should be the only one there)
Select Listen tab
Uncheck Listen to this device

Things are a little different under Win7, and many things go under differnet names now :/
At least it is more stable than WinXP, and anything is an improvement over the Cleveland Steamer known as Vista.
