How would Francis Hancock from To Kill A Mocking Bird dress like?

Asked by tianalovesyou (711points) January 16th, 2011

I’m doing this thing for my class in a week, where everyone is assigned a character from To Kill A Mocking Bird. I was assigned Francis Hancock, the spoiled child of Aunt Alexandra. Any suggestions on what type of things I should wear, or props I could bring?

I would google pictures of people from that time period and re-create the look based off of that

Upper class kid, right? He probably wore knickers, leather oxford shoes with plain white socks, a white collared shirt, a jacket, perhaps a tie and a newsboy-type cap. The younger a boy was, the more likely he wore short pants, then graduated to knickers, then to trousers by the time he was 12 or so.

If you want to go all out, Aunt Alexandra seems like the type of woman who’d dress her son in the 30s equivalent of Little Lord Fauntleroy or Eton schoolboy clothes, the kind that a boy always got his butt kicked for wearing on The Little Rascals.
