Program to make high quality gifs?

Asked by XOIIO (18328points) February 22nd, 2011

I need a program that will easily make GIF’s with as little quality loss as possible. I want them to be real time as well. What programs are there to do this?

GIMP is a free image editing program much like Photoshop that can be used to create .gifs. There are some tutorials here and a quick Google search should give you plenty more if those aren’t helpful to your particular needs.

As for quality, that is entirely up to you when you save the file. Usually, upon saving, a prompt will come up with compression options, etc.

Whoops,

Making gifs from an actual video clip. I have seen a couple that extract the frames but the quality after is horrible

Have a look at the section on using ImageMagick (http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/video/) to convert video to animated gifs. Even if you choose something else, it is a good tutorial on the issues around creating a balance between the final image size and quality.

I use picasion.

That is extremely difficult and almost impossible if you want high resolution as you only have 256 colors as opposed to millions in static images.
