Do you think DSK should run for president of France? If he does, do you think he will win?

Asked by atlantis (1862points) July 2nd, 2011

The sexual assault case against the former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn is on the verge of collapse. That is according to the New York Times, which says two law enforcement officials have discovered “major holes in the credibility” of Strauss-Kahn’s accuser.

Prosecutors say, since making the allegations, the Guinean-born hotel maid has repeatedly lied and that she may also be linked to people involved in illegal drugs and money laundering. Strauss-Kahn faces seven felony charges including attempted rape, if convicted he could face 25 years in prison.

Since the start, it has all been about an accusation of rape. But media reports suggest prosecutors are now working with three possible scenarios that could each destroy the case against Strauss-Kahn.

So what does the future hold for the former IMF boss? Have his political ambitions been undone by over-zealous officials and media or has he been the architect of his own demise?

No, I do not. No, I do not.

@marinelife I think he’s still got a chance at the presidency and he does seem to be more popular with the public then Sarkozy is right now.

He’ll probably win, haha!

atlantis's avatar

@trickface because you think he’s really got the spotlight on him now?

@atlantis I think his innocence story combined with some popular ideals that combat Sarkozy will result in him sneaking to a victory. Does he have any other opponents?

Also in my cynical mind I feel like the villains always win when finances (IMF) are concerned! but that’s just me on a pessimistic night :)

I don’t know. I don’t think his sex life has anything to do with his ability to be a political leader. If he got entrapped by a con-woman, then I don’t think that’s grounds to derail his political career.

On the other hand, just because she’s a liar and a criminal doesn’t mean she wasn’t raped. So I think we need to wait and see if there will be a trial. She may have been raped but there is so much evidence to impeach her character, that no one will believe her. Still, her testimony should be riveting.

I don’t think he’ll be running. He can’t even leave the country right now.

He won’t run, he won’t win.

He may have been a bad boss, but he would have made a good President. And at the time of the global slowdown too. A real asset to have a finance-savvy president.

not a wonderful asset to have a president who feels a sense of entitlement to other people’s bodies

If I were a French citizen I wouldn’t vote for him. Even if he’s innocent. With his extremely luxurious life style and hunger for wealth he isn’t my role model.

I think if he can bring our country better and better, and let people live happier and happier, anyone is ok. But we do not know, what exactly the person like, in my mind, politician are liars, they make promise bur break promise. So, who will be leader really matters, but common citizen can do nothing. Just hope, hope all the things better.
