The ozone is failing; the world is going to fry, would you try to get on the work list to a subterranean community?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) July 20th, 2011

If the earth started to heat up as in The Twilight Zone, ”The Midnight Sun”, were it was predicted the earth would reach a surface temperature of 147 deg fahr. by day because the ozone was failing rapidly, but you hear the rich and high government officials are building subterranean communities and taking limited number of ”little people”, those not rich, in as workers and laborers, etc. Would you try to get on that list? Is there be anything that you would do to assure you made it in the community? You figure you’d take your chances on the surface and just go as far north or south as you could go?

Yes, if you made it on the list six family menbers can join you.

Nope, I would move to Coober Pedy and mine opals. They already live underground there.

They do too @rooeytoo

I would if I could take my family. For sure, since I can take my family.

I would do whatever I could to get on that list (Within reason. I wouldn’t kill someone or do anything like that). I would call in favours though and if it was going to cost money and I had the money, I would pay.

@Bellatrix – my husband and I and the dogs stayed there on our last trip from NT to SA. I have a RAN friend who was there for a couple of months and we stayed with her in her underground house. It was a bit strange, I don’t know if I could take it for too long. I think I would get claustrophobic and grow mold (or mould)! My friend was thrilled when her time was up and she could move on too. But that was a combination of the usual burnout that accompanies that sort of post as well as the underground part.

I was thinking that @Rooey… I have seen docos that talk about them but I think I would feel claustrophobic too. Are there windows so you can at least see the sky and get fresh air? Eww on mould. Did you get mould earlier this year after all that rain and more rain and then more rain again? So many people down here were saying they had mould problems. I went over everything I could with oil of cloves.

Actually Coober Pedy is a pretty dry area so the mould there is not too bad. But yes it is always bad in the tropics especially during the wet. I always have to wipe the green off leather shoes before I wear them. Of course up here, I rarely wear leather shoes. And I have a leather jacket that I brought with me from USA 13 years ago and keep for those winter trips down south. It has been green so many times I am surprised it has survived. Windows in the front of most houses where you come in and out, no sky unless you walk outside.

Sorry HC, just got a little sidetracked!

I’d like to but I’m too far removed from anyone with power to get on. So I’d probably have a better chance of getting to the poles.

No. I am not going underground to live. My clan will now die.

I’m moving North. In fact, I’m already considering purchasing prime land on a future beach front, when the sea levels rise. Not to mention productive farm land in the tundra. One day those purchases will be a gold mine.

I think a hundred desperate rednecks could be persuaded to storm one of these underground communities for the rich.

@wundayatta – I just heard a song on the radio this morning, I think Graham Connors sang it and the gist of it was that he is selling his place at Bondi and building a beach house in the Blue Mountains which are way inland. It was funny!

Immediately brought Coober Pedy to mind!
