Can adrenaline affect your sense of taste?

Asked by Nimis (13255points) July 31st, 2011 from iPhone

Dodged a crazy driver, then noshed on a sandwich. I’ve eaten this sandwich at least a hundred times before, but I swear it tasted different this time. And not a did-they-change-an-ingredient type of different. All the ingredients tasted slightly different.

And it only lasted a few moments.

Apparently, noradrenaline (AKA norepinephrine), which is released along with adrenaline during panic episodes, can alter taste. It enhances bitter and salty taste perception (see here).
