What is the blue stuff in my whey protein?

Asked by zina (1661points) May 4th, 2008

There’s nothing blue in the cup, there’s nothing blue in the whey protein container or powder. But a couple minutes after it dissolves in the water, I notice lots of tiny little very light blue specs. What is this?

Its possible that your whey protein was fortified with vitamins or minerals that were water insoluble and appear as blue specs.

what does the label say?

Does it contain spiriulina?

no…. label says nothing about it, and it doesn’t have spirulina

maybe its magic blue specks, or a flavor added to not really help with the taste?

That is most likely branch chain amino acids. Most protein powder comes with them added. The BCAA powder doesn’t fully dissolve in water.
